2001 Mercury Sable with Duratec V6 DOHC engine: EGR Vacuum Solenoid question
The car was in a bad shop out of town and came out with a fresh set of problems. It is
now generating a P0401 Engine Check Code which indicates there is a problem with the
EGR system. Looking things over I noticed that there are no vacuum tubes on the EGR
Vacuum Solenoid. That seems like a likely excuse for the engine check. Where do those
small tubes come from and go to?
One hose plugs into the intake manifold on one end and the EGR pressure sensor on the other. Another hose plugs into the EGR pressure sensor on one end and the EGR valve on the other. You are correct BTW. Code P0401 is insufficient EGR flow. Since the vacuum hoses are missing, you're getting no EGR flow. Vacuum is needed to open the EGR valve. HTH. -Jim
You're welcome. Glad to help. - Jim
Jim, I found the line. It was dangling off the back of the engine. With a bit of delicate jerking and jiggling I managed to extract it. Reinstalling it was easy.
Awesome!! Thanks for letting us know! -Jim
