Car won't start

So, about a month or so ago I had my
starter replaced for my 2002 Mercury
Sable because it would make this loud,
screeching sound when I would attempt to
start it. After getting the starter, the car
started beautifully up until today. I went out
to start my car and it once again made the
same sound it made when attempting to
start it 2-3 times before it actually started.
Any clue what might be wrong with it..?

I know it's new but it could be that new starter is defective...
