my 2002 mercury cougar 2.5 automatic will no longer go into reverse , it goes forward in all gears what is wu with that?
took a 600 mile trip , on the way back the car seemed to jerk at higher speeds. when I got home and
pulled up my drive way , I tried to back out but the transmission only goes forward in all gears
Need to check your transmission fluid level- must be done with the engine running.
If it is low we must find out from where it's leaking, suspect the transmission coolant lines that run up to the radiator. check for weeping at the fittings-
it was low 1 qt . I added 1 qt but the car still will not go into reverse.
Youve got to run it through all selections on the gear selector with your foot on the brake, and get this torque converter up and able to do the job.
