Asked by pburton23 Jan 04, 2019 at 10:34 PM about the 2019 Jeep Cherokee Limited 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Twice now my 2019 Jeep Limited 6 cy 4x4
has stalled while driving. Battery light, engine
light, power steering gone, gas and brakes
do not function. This is extremely dangerous.
The dealership has not resolved the issue.
Nothing has been replaced. The car is at the
dealership a second time  Has anything
worked to fix this problem?

Make a stink and get a loaner until they resolve this problem. Document everything in case you need to make a Lemon claim.

My 2018 has done this twice within 2 days . First dealership said it was software updates that was needed. Picked up car and next day it did same thing so now it’s back at the shop. Very annoying to have this happen to a new car.

I originally posted the problem with my 2019 Jeep Cherokee. It was a bad battery connection but I refused to take back the car and secured a lawyer. At the time I had no idea if they really fixed the car. I negotiated a new car with the dealer with some upgrades attached. I felt the original car was a lemon. Having a lawyer available to use was helpful. No trouble with the second car so far.

My 2018 Cherokee just died on me today on the way to work. Gas pedal didn’t function but luckily the breaks did. Turned the car off then back on again and it was fine... very scary.

it has happen to me at least 5x maybe 6 did to my husband today as driving it to dealer. however saturday it was 3x i made it to his work while he followed me. we dropped off at dealer was told it was a feature when you need a oil change not to burn up your engine.. haven't picked up car yet so don't believe that a feature. sounds dangerous. i was glad it was just streets by our home and not me on highway to work.. our car has just hit 11,000 miles 2018 cherokee trailhawk

I got my car back after 6 weeks of them having it. They tried the oil change excuse with me but I just had my oil changed. They changed my oil again just to be sure. We insisted they take it out for a test drive, my car didnt even make it out of the parking lot when it stalled. It turns out I needed a new transmission. The customer service from my dealership was awful throughout the whole process

I was doing a Google search and came across this. Great information, I am having the same issue with my 2018 Cherokee. Just shuts off for no reason, tonight is the last straw, in the middle of an intersection! Dash sometimes says service shifter. The dealer tells me it was due to a late oil change. Well this time I am 1500 miles from my next oil change. I am calling Jeep again, this is very dangerous.

I am in the same boat as 2005clay, this happened to me back in June and they said it was a sensor issue covered under warranty. Now I am having the issue again and they say it is overdue for an oil change but I am also approximately a 1,000 from an oil change and I don't think "dirty oil" would cause it to turn off in the middle of traffic!!!!!

My 2019 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk has been doing this since day one. It is currently at the dealer for the second time for the same issue. The first trip to the dealer resulted in them finding a corroded ground. They cleaned it up and re-seated the wire. It happened again two days later. Thankfully I did enough research to know to get FCA and the NHTSA involved from the beginning which will hopefully ease the hassle if this turns into a Lemon Law case. Any which way, this Jeep is a serious road hazard and an accident waiting to happen. It's so bad I don't allow my children to ride with me because I fear something terrible happening with them in the car. I will give some credit to my local dealer and FCA though as they have been very supportive of my concerns and are really trying to correct the problem.

Happened to me today in middle of intersection in my 2016 Cherokee. Engine off, lost power steering and brakes. Gave me an error on the dash something about not being able to shift. Based on what I’m seeing in this thread not that uncommon unfortunately. Had to wait a few minutes before turning back on, barely started and was able to drive off.

I ended up needing a new transmission. the dealer tried to give me my car back after having it only a day, stating they couldn't get it to reproduce my claim. we refused to pick it up until it was fixed. it happen to me a total of 3xs and once was when it was in the dealer parking lot. after 2 months, yes 2 months they ended up putting in a new transmission. it seems to good now, fingers crossed

Interesting thread! We had a Cherokee loaner while our Grand Cherokee was in for service. Drove it three times, stalled twice, had it towed back to the dealer!

Hi All! I ended up taking my car in 3 times in the past 6 months for the stalling issue as I tried to accelerate. The most recent time (in Dec.), I refused to pay for an oil change because I was still 2,500 miles from my next one and pushed back quite a bit at the “dirty oil” excuse. They did an oil consumption test and when I took it for the follow up, they ended up replacing my motor. Hopefully the issue is fixed permanently!!!

So, I called the dealership and was asked if my oil has been changed..My oil percentage on the dashboard said 40%..I told the dealership this and they told me not to go by that. So, once I went in and got an oil change, it did stop stalling.. I was at 40 something percent again a few months later and it stalled..So, either my jeep is burning oil really fast or something else is up. ‍♀️‍♀️‍♀️ As soon as I got my oil changed again it stopped.

I was just at my Jeep dealer and they the 2.4 Cherokee will die out if it reads that the oil is too low. I believe this to be a design flaw and have reported it to the NHTSA

I’ve only had the car for 4 months and this started happening yesterday. I’m at the dealership now, same issue (shut off 3 times before getting here . Oil percentage is 16% and they told me I need to replace the oil every 4000 miles. I mentioned “electrical issues” and the attendant said “No No its not that.”

Insist that they do an oil consumption test.. that is what we had to do, turns out they had to replace the engine among other things. I can say that I have not had any problems with the Jeep since then. I also will say it was some of the worst customer service I ever experienced. (Chrysler, not the dealer)

I encourage all of you that are having a problem to file a complaint: https://www- odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/VehicleComplaint/ This happened while my 16 year old was driving the car. Jeep doesn't seem concerned over the safety of their consumers.

I bought a 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee in February and this just happened to me twice this week. Second time it would not start back up and I was stuck on the road. It locked into Park so we could not even push to side of the road. It happened twice on consecutive days about the same distance from my house. Had my first oil change at 5000 miles and it’s now at 7100. They’ve had it for 3 days now and now feedback. I’ll chat with my attorney about past issues.

This is happening to me now. My 2019 Jeep Cherokee did this about a year ago, barely a year old and they dealership took it in and told me they ":changed the battery" int he automatic shut off switch. Now a year later it is doing it again, although this time more dangerous, while slowing down for red lights. Nearly got rear-ended twice! I saw this forum about the recall and dealership said they corrected that the first time it was in. Now I am waiting to see what the "excuse" is this time. So frustrating!

My 2019 Jeep Cherokee stalled at a red light, stalled inside a car wash (brake light on) unable to move. Then twice this week stalled at stop sign battery light came on. Battery is perfectly clean all connections are tight.

My 2017 Cherokee trail hawk has been doing the same thing has anyone from there dealerships figured out what the problem is if not I’m putting my 96 Cherokee back on the road and scrapping this piece of crap

I tried putting a new battery no problems for about 1 week. Today when I made a turn the car shut down twice within 2 minutes. The 2nd time I couldn’t hardly get the Jeep to start again

Wow, this is troublesome - we had a 2014 Jeep Cherokee Limited (lease) and it happened to us while driving within the first few months as well. Incredibly dangerous. They ended up replacing the transmission(!). I chalked it up to a bad year for the model but to see that this is still an ongoing with issue makes me never want drive a Jeep again.

I think I may go back to Honda. I wanted to try another brand and I've had more trouble with this car than any others. A service shifter warning came across my dashboard and all the lights went red..I took it to the Jeep dealership and they are now waiting on a piece to replace. ‍♀️‍♀️

Had this same thing happen with my 2021 Jeep Cherokee last week. Stalled three to four times before eventually decided to stay running. Bunch of warning lights and messages that systems not working as well as check engine light.

I have a 2019 2.4L. mine has been in an out of the shop every since I bought with 122 miles on it. Was a show room car. My first Jeep ever and I SO disappointed. It was concerned a lemon and they would not buy back the car. So now after a new engine last year after a year of fighting because of the oil problem. Now my in the last 2 months my car has decided to just turn off when driving. What the HELL DO I DO!!!! I pay too much for this car to not work and I work a half and hour away from home.
