OEM Tire Warranty calculating by tread depth?

Asked by Guru9W74LX Mar 09, 2021 at 11:06 PM about the 2018 Kia Optima Hybrid EX FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have OEM Hankook tires on my 2018 car that are hitting the end of usable
tread depth at 33k when they are warrantied for 70k.
Hankook has this in their warranty: "Adjustment for compensation will be
made on a pro rata basis calculated by multiplying the actual current dealer
selling price by the percentage of remaining usable tread depth"

But this doesn't make sense to me, since, if I have 1/32" of usable tread
depth and the tire costs $107 new, I would pay $3.34 for the new tire?

I just ask because I have done the prorated tire with mileage warranty before
with Firestone and I know the tire dealers hate it and I want to actually
understand the whole thing. But Firestone, I think like most tires, went by
mileage, not by usable tread depth, so it's all strange to me.

Thanks in advance.

Tire depth is what most tire companies do. Pro Rated is just percentages, They pay a percentage, you pay a percentage. $4 bucks is great, pay it and go.

Thanks for responding. Turns out this is not correct. I called, and Hankook offers _NO_ mileage warranty on OEM tires. Meanwhile, Kia itself has no tire warranty. So they either switched the tires at the dealership or Kias are being shipped out new with garbage on their wheels. I'm gong to call the dealership this morning, but I feel really cheated by the whole thing.

The warranty you refer to may be the road hazard or tire failure warranty.
