not quite sure what is meant by thermostat is rising?....but if the thermostat is opening up when 195 degrees is achieved that cannot be a problem...what I suggest is invest in an inexpensive coolant pressure tester...then pump it up to 17 psi and we can see where it's sprayin' from....keep your fingers crossed that it's not a cracked casting~

Try to locate the leak. Small inspection mirror helps look in all the small areas. Check real close around the water pump. I feel you may find those drops coming from the weep hole on the water pump. If so your water pump is shot. Check coolant level. This could be why the temp is higher than normal.

@dandyoun, your answer that the water pump is shot sounds about right.

Well don't just take my word for it tho. Do your home work. Inspect the area around the pump. Look for signs of the weep hole leaking. Also check the coolant level. If low top it off and inspect for leaks. The pressure test is a good way to locate them. Low coolant level will cause your heat not to work and will cause the temp gauge to rise. I would hate for you to change a water pump only to find out later that a hose leak and low coolant level was your whole issue to start with.
