What causes my 3.8 Liter 1998 Ford Mustang to run fine until I shut it off for 5 minutes then run rough on restart?

Asked by Jan 15, 2013 at 04:41 PM about the 1998 Ford Mustang Coupe

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

When driving a considerable distance I will shut off the engine to complete my business (approximately 5 minutes)
then when restarting the car it starts but runs like it is hitting on 4 or 5 cylinders for a brief period. What can be done
to correct this situation?

You could try new plugs and wires.

Might check the fuel pump pressure. Make sure lines are holding fuel and not bleeding back somewhere.

^yeah, when u shut it off it might leak a bit more fuel into the cylinder and that rough start could be ur engine burning away the fuel...and if that is happening, then ur probably burning oil....but who knows ur injectors could just use a good cleaning or a tune up
