replacing front brake pads and rotors 1999 mazda protege

Cant seem to compress front brake caliper  piston on my 1999 mazda protege tried using c clamp cant seem to move it enough to get new pads on any suggestions i have heard that the piston has to be screwed in is this true

caliper might be seized as well
