1998 Ford Explorer Sport weak idle then stalls out
1998 Ford Explorer works fine but lately after driven for a while certain long distances, we
shut if off and when restarting it has weak idle and then eventually stalls out. Sometimes
we get lucky when turning it back on and its fine but sometimes it keeps stalling out so we
have to let it sit and give it some time before turning on again and then it works good. I
have read a lot online and don't know where to start. Car has been great, it has about
117k miles, have had for a year without any major problems. I don't want to start replacing
half the car like crazy trying to get to the problem. I have read about fuel pump, intake o
rings, manifold gaskets, IAC valve replace etc. Any solutions any tips? This does not
happen often. As of now I would say it is just once a week, mainly when we take it for a
long drive, then it does it. I want to fix it before it doesn't even start. So where do I start?
Solutions and tips greatly appreciated.
I meant 1997 explorer sport. Just in case it makes a difference.
Since you do not want to begin spending money call the individual you purchased it from and ask if they ever tuned it up. 117K without one would indicate one is needed. You are going to have to begin checking various systems when it is running rough. It could be any of the things you mentioned plus more.
