How can you confirm you have a faulty water pump

Mazda is overheating and heater core not getting hot appears not enough

Get it hot feel the hose to the thermostat see if it is hotter than the bottom hose if so it is thermostat. . Sounds like the coolant is low . Would cause heater to run like crap. Stuck thermostat do it too
