OD light flashing and engine overheating??

Asked by Apr 12, 2016 at 10:42 AM about the 2003 Mazda MPV LX

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

2003 Mazda MPV replaced fan module in November. This past weekend
temperature gauge flew up to HOT and O/D light started flashing. Pulled over
and popped the hood and the antifreeze was going crazy and a tube was
"bouncing" from the antifreeze to the fan area?? Drove van and temperature
gauge dropped all the way to COLD w/ O/D light flashing. Stopped at stop
light and when I accelerated, van jerked very hard when switching gears.
Pulled over and parked van, antifreeze totally gone. HELP PLEASE!!

The bouncing was the coolant percolating, most likely a failed thermostat, but if it didn't leak any coolant and it is now gone the engine most likely blew a head gasket. Have it towed to a shop you trust and have it checked out, but be prepared for the worse cause it doesn't sound good.
