Battery light blinking

Asked by mjlargent2015 Jun 01, 2019 at 08:29 PM about the 2003 Mazda MPV LX

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My battery light has been
blinking for a while. We clean
the battery cables replace one of
the clamps. It still kept blinking. I
took it to O'Reilly they did a
check on the battery alternator
and starter and said everything
is good. I talked to my mechanic
and he said if it's blinking the
alternator is going out. But I'm
not understanding I'm not losing
any kind of power. I went ahead
and took it to another store and
they checked everything and he
even had me turn on air
conditioner lights and everything
when checking alternator and
everything was fine. He did say
it's said something to the effect
of something wrong with the
ground. I went and talked to
another mechanic and they're
talking about electrical and
maybe the belt and maybe the
alternator. I just don't know what
to do I am on a fixed income I
can't afford to have them do all
this trace on all the electric or
whatever. It doesn't seem to be
hurting anything so I just don't
know what to do I don't want you
to end up going someplace end
up stranded. Any suggestion
please

I would bet on a weak/failing alternator. Eventually it won't keep up and your battery will become discharged and it won't start. Don't replace the battery. Replace the alternator with "new" for $150 in parts, labor is not much. Don't worry. It will be okay.
