I have a 2004 mazda mpv lx and its overheating .

I have put water and antifreeze in it every time only because when i check
the reservoir it calls for it and for some reason it doesnt had a radiator cap
only over flow reservoir if it does where is it ? I looked under it for just a
minute and didnt see a leak but its possible its a very slow leak . If I hit the
gas alittle too hard too where it idles high ( 3500 and up ) It will have the
temperature rising and the fans kick on when I turn the key on so Im
assuming they work fine . I also checked the oil and it isnt milky what so
ever . What could it be ? what can I check ? Where is the thermostat
located ? Is it in the water pump and where is that ?

Do a compression check on each cylinder to see if head gasket is starting to fail. And there is a test that you can do to find out if there is exhaust going into the coolant. You said it looses coolant correct? When you give it the gas for extended RPM's the temp gauge rises correct? This is a lesson I learned in 2 years of mechanic school, head gasket failure symptoms, You checked fans they work correct. Change out the thermostat. Look very close at the radiator and hose's and heater core for coolant leaks. If heater core leaks bypass it. There radiator cap is at the reservoir. Pull the oil fill cap and/or tube and look to see if its milky it shows up on the plastic parts first. water pump ever been replaced or checked, look around it good for leaks and front of engine near timing cover and intake all the way around and around heads.

I changed the thermostat and new waterpump. And the oil is fine. It still overheats and gotta fill up with water almost every time.

I don't know what's wrong. I put a new thermostat and water pump on and it still over heats

Still sounds like head gaskets, and possible a leak elsewhere too.

Try looking where all the hoses connect on right side of motor,usually there are about 3-4 small hoses connected there. this multiple connector just plugs into motor,gets loose after aging and leaks to the point where it can drive you crazy. this I found after going crazy trying to find where mine leaked and it took a pressure test and alot of looking before I finally located the problem.
