Towing with a 2018 Outback

Asked by OutbackJack50 Sep 23, 2018 at 09:03 PM about the 2018 Subaru Outback 2.5i Premium AWD

Question type: General

I was skeptical to say the least. My former
Outback was a 3.6. So losing 2 cly. had me
worried. I loaded up my utility trailer close
to the max of 2300#. I then proceeded to
load the Outback way more than she
should carry. But anyway, I started down I-
77 thru the Virginia Mountains. My sweet
Ouback never missed a beat. So with that
said. Tow on my good friends. The Subaru
Outback can handle it!!

Be careful. Do this too many times and your CVT will pack it in.

Tow capacity of the 2.5 FOUR is 2,700 pounds...it's in the owners manual ...for a reason...read it... the 3.6 is rated for 3,000 pounds... Unless you are the author of the Subaru Outback manual and the designer of the car, I think you're on pretty shaky ground here? This information is not for laughs..,. That said.. however, use good judgement.. it's never a good idea to overload your car...and tow as well... review the owners manual and follow the guidelines... .. I don't know what you mean by really overloading....by saying "way more" than it should carry... There's a precise number for the car and the tow... Any questions, call Subaru and ask them....(800) 782-2783.... they can answer any questions....
