Lincoln Navigator 2wd 2001 repeated bearing failure

Asked by Aug 06, 2014 at 06:45 PM about the 2001 Lincoln Navigator Base

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2001 Lincoln Navigator.  When backing up the truck turning the wheel hard, we
heard a noise.  Then the fron bearing gave out in a mile or two.  We have a mechanic
replace the spindle,, and redo the front left bearings.  It was running fine, but then when
backing up again in a parking lot, it made that noise again, and ultimately within a mile
or two my girl friend had the left front bearing fail again. Is there something that limits
the turning ability of the front wheels to keep this from happening?  Is it just
coincidence?  I am baffled.

Whatever happened was not coincidence. Sounds like the mechanic did something wrong. Missed something or put bearing on backwards, wrong bearing, something like that. That's a high-end quality vehicle

Dito on the quality. Perhaps the carrier it's self is defective.
