engine missfire

Asked by Dec 17, 2009 at 06:43 AM about the 2001 Lincoln Continental 4 Dr STD Sedan

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

4.6 engine.  Cylinders 3,4 and 5 are missfiring.  Changed plugs and inspected rubber boot and no signs of rubber cracking.  Maybe coils?  How do you check the coils?  Is there some kind of pick-up that tell the coil to fire?

well grease monkey way is get a screw driver stick it into the coil and lay it near a ground sorce and watch for a spark. or just switch the coil to a non missfiring one and check if it followed the coil or stayed in the same cylinder. Then go on from there
