2018 driver Info center on dashboard

Asked by chris Jan 02, 2020 at 11:28 PM about the 2018 Chevrolet Malibu LT FWD

Question type: General

I have a 2018 lt1 malibu. When you pull up the driver info center there is a
bar graph which shows you your mpg. When I left off the gas and my speed
is above 22 mph the bar graph goes to 99 mpg and next to it symbol that
looks like a battery that is usually gray turns green as long as I coast. The
car is not a hybrid.
I have called the dealership and chevy.com both twice and they have no
idea what it means also in the forums 3 people have the same question and
have recieved the same no idea from there dealerships, so no one in chevy
has any idea what a light on there dashboard means WOW amazing

It's normal. It actually tells u the gas efficiency. The less u press on the gas oedal, the higher the gas efficiency is. If u step on it really fast, efficiency goes way down, it's actually a good tool to see ur driving habits, try stepping on it slowly and ur gas efficiency will go up versus accelerating very fast

Ummm No your not reading the question it was not about the bar graph it's about the battery symbol next to it turning green. I am wondering what a battery symbol has to do with gas milage or what it is telling me

I'm not 100% sure if your vehicle has 2 batteries like the 2015 models. when you decelerate it automatically switches to the backup battery and green icon comes on. There's different theories about it like some say it's part of the regenerative braking system but honestly not sure. I searched the web but no straight answers.

Yes it has two batteries but the only problem with that theory is that the battery light will only light above 22 mph. So if you live in the city chances of you coasting any significant time above 22mph to charge the battery is probably not going to happen as this is a small battery about the size of a motorcycle battery I would imagine with a lot of accessories running at a stop it would drain down quickly in the city and not have the opportunity to charge due to stop and go situations So if you think about this what the hell does a battery symbol have to do with gas milage and also how is it possible no one in chevy has a clue. I am starting to wonder if they didn't use the same dash in the highbrids and forgot to omit it in the regular models. So in passing if someone actually comes up with a actual answer your smarter than chevy the dealerships and the forums.
