No it doesn't have to make any noise to be bad.

Should the rear air get cold if the front ones are bad?

19,050

If you're not getting any cold air front or back it almost sounds like you have a freon leak. Do you have heat front and back?

Had a/c worked great...then motor dropped valve....New engine from dealer and installed...since that my air hasn't worked. Took to mechanic for a/c they replaced everything inder hood twice the could not fond the problem....no leaks now Low pressure tibe gets ice cold

If tube is cold, and air blowing in is not,it is the actuator in the blower box,not turning over to cool,or is stuck in between,Check the actuator blend motor under dash at blower box.
