Apparently it's just for show. I just took my 2018 back to the dealer and they said that the gear shift lights do not light up at night because everything is on the dash.

Was told the same thing at dealership, Ridiculous for Ford to NOT have the console light up. I know some penny pinching engineer decided to remove the lighting to cut costs but at night, that lighting NEEDS to be available as a back up in case the dash lighting/illumination stops working. It's a SAFETY Item, not a Cost cutting option! Just Saying Ford!

Yes. I noticed this last night. Just called my Ford Dealership. They checked the schematics and no shifter lighting> Not safe and looks terrible! What a shame.

I am not happy with the darkness of the console at night either. Also....the Gearshift somtimes PINCHES my hand when I'm putting it in gear. That is painful and really makes me angry. I love my Escape.....other than that. I wouldn't have bought it had I realized.

Like others have said, I’m pretty sure my 2019 had a lit gear shifter, now it don’t work and the dealer tells me its not supposed to light up

Same here,I think it’s ridiculous that the gear shift doesn’t light up. I can’t imagine who said ya we don’t need that, their are lights everywhere else on this vehicle. And to me it looks horrible not having it lit,I’m also surprised that the wiper and blinker arms are not lit either. I love my escape, it’s fully loaded with everything it can offer, but that non lighting really bothers me.

I just boughta 2018 Escape and noticed no shifter lights when I got it home. Its scary at night. Shifters absolutley should be lit up. Who shifts without looking. Its only common sense you look at the shifter not the dash when shifting. Wish I never would have bought it

Agree with all of you. It was very foolish of Ford to remove the shifter lighting. It's where we all look! Bad idea Ford!

I agree I like to see the lighting on the shifter. I don’t like it. I wish that they would have never done that.
