Car whistles, and surges?

     Car whistles while accelerating and randomly surges a couple hundred rpm.    Whistle noise is getting worse.  I noticed the other day  after I parked car and got out, it continued  to whistle a couple times after car was turned off.

What kind of whistle is it? Like an exhaust leak whistle? Or a Vacuum leak whistle? I drive a 1996 Ford Thunderbird that did the surging thing too. Have you done a tune up recently? The biggest difference that I found out is using AT LEAST 87 Octane Gasoline. Don't forget about fuel injector cleaner. If those don't help, see if the car is registering any diagnostic trouble codes. (DTC) I found out that my Camshaft Position Sensor was bad. You also might want to check to see if your distributor is set right, so your timing is not off. In all cases, you might just have an electronic distributor. Whistle is low pitched. Beep, beep, beep Replaced iac with one on e bay. May have got a bad one. Hate putting out another 50 bucks only to find it wasn't it. My mechanic is very good,( a ford specialist) but this has him puzzled. We will figure it out eventually. Really surprised me yesterday when after I shut car down and got out of car, it continued to beep a couple times. (140,000 on odometer) Paul

sounds like you got a vac leak,check all vac lines for cracks and softness,replace

I was just going to say that. I got beat to it.

IAC would not cause this problem,like said check for vac leaks.
