Car whistles, and surges?

Asked by Nov 17, 2010 at 10:11 AM about the 1999 Ford Taurus SE

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Car whistles while accelerating and randomly surges a couple hundred rpm.    Whistle noise is getting worse.  I noticed the other day  after I parked car and got out, it continued  to whistle a couple times after car was turned off.

What kind of whistle is it? Like an exhaust leak whistle? Or a Vacuum leak whistle? I drive a 1996 Ford Thunderbird that did the surging thing too. Have you done a tune up recently? The biggest difference that I found out is using AT LEAST 87 Octane Gasoline. Don't forget about fuel injector cleaner. If those don't help, see if the car is registering any diagnostic trouble codes. (DTC) I found out that my Camshaft Position Sensor was bad. You also might want to check to see if your distributor is set right, so your timing is not off. In all cases, you might just have an electronic distributor. (Ford calls it a Distributor- less Distributor) Hope this helps. Feel free to email me if you want to matthew_jones1991@ live.com

Whistle is low pitched. Beep, beep, beep Replaced iac with one on e bay. May have got a bad one. Hate putting out another 50 bucks only to find it wasn't it. My mechanic is very good,( a ford specialist) but this has him puzzled. We will figure it out eventually. Really surprised me yesterday when after I shut car down and got out of car, it continued to beep a couple times. (140,000 on odometer) Paul

sounds like you got a vac leak, check all vac lines for cracks and softness, replace

I was just going to say that. I got beat to it.

IAC would not cause this problem, like said check for vac leaks.

Will do will do Thank you
