Why idid my Kia Amanti start doing this?

Driving normal car starts running rough and shuts off, it starts back
up putters and then it takes off like a shot. Come to stop sign or red
light it does the same thing. Left the car sit overnight and the car ran
fine to get to the garage.  Check engine light is on solid but they can't
get a code

If the check engine light is on then something is wrong, do they have the capability to run a live data test on the vehicle? That should pinpoint the exact problem unless the ECM is messed up.

Visit your local auto parts store and have them scan the computer for trouble codes. Most stores will do it for free. If the check engine light is on, steady, there's a code in the PCM (engine computer) or a pending code. Once you have the code take the vehicle somewhere else who has better testing equipment.
