What is 2005 Kia Sedona timing belt play supposed to be and is there special procedure for measuring play?
I had timing belt cover off one side to replace bank 1 cam shaft pos sensor. Noticed new
looking belt had lots of play. Called dealer and they mentioned turning motor to TDC and
then checking so I turned engine on and then the belt was as tight as a belt should be.
How the heck can a belt be that loose and then tighten up. Bad timing belt tensioner?
Does something "pump up" with oil pressure when the engine starts?}

And if so, this is the belt tensioner. It's spring loaded, Then we can go from there and try to figure out what is going on
See how the idler is off-set like a eccentric type? Evidently being at TDC (On #1?) has something to do with it, the tensioner is not even touching the idler with belt on it
Yes, it looks like that is the engine. The dealer to me about the TDC and thats why I dcecided to start it knowing it would pass TDC. Excellent information. I've changed timing belt tensioners before. However before doing that, I will change the cam pos sensor like my code checker is telling me to. Whoever you are, I thank you. Can I send you a tip?
