Ignition Cylinder will not fully set

Question type: General

My 1972 el Camino came without the keys. I removed the old cylinder and
purchased a new ignition cylinder. The new cylinder will not fully sit into the
column. Key in and key out does change.i’m not able to get the new cylinder
fully in for the locking mechanism to engage.
Any ideas ?

The key/tumbler/ignition has a pinion that activates a rod for the actual switch , That " switch " may have been misaligned during your operation . Your experience may differ
