I have a 1986 GMC Sierra classic I’m going to be
putting in a 383 stroker into it that pushes 460hp
and 490lbs of torque I’m looking at a th400
transmission to go with is this a good idea

As long as you don't need an O/D... If you have any plans on driving this on the street, a built 700R4 or better yet 4L80 may be a better choice.
