I tried shifting manually but it won,t work

is it just not going in any gear there is a linkage on the side of the trans that has a clip on attaching pin the cable that comes down snaps on and some time it can pop off. if it is shifting into gear but just not going anywhere then start the jeep and check the trans fluid. if it is at the full line then check to see if the transfer case is in neutral if it is way before the full like the pump might mot be working in the trans. this gives you some things to look at. let me know

First check transmission fluid level if ok have shift control solinoid checked after that may need transmission work done.
