Possible torque converter lockup. get all 4 wheels off the ground and blocked up safely, place trans in neutral, start engine and wait for it to establish idle stable idle then without stepping on the brake place into reverse, if it goes into gear without dying step on the brake if it dies then the converter is locked up, of course you cab do this same test in drive but I like reverse as it is slower if something were to happen to blocking and it jumped off.
