1996 Jeep Cherokee airbag area heats up while driving
Asked by 1996CherokeeNM Nov 09, 2018 at 09:26 AM about the 1996 Jeep Cherokee Country 4-Door 4WD
Question type: Maintenance & Repair
I have recently noticed that the covering area of my
1996 Jeep Cherokee's airbag (in steering wheel)
heats up while I am driving, even when it's not hot
outside (and thus, the dash and other interior
surfaces are still cool). Is this a safety issue, and
what should/can I do? What might this cost to
address, if it even can be?

Unless you have a heated steering wheel, you have an electrical problem; a short somewhere. If it's in the air bag system, you run the risk of detonating the bag. Have a mechanic look at this; it really doesn't seem like a difficult fix.
