1996 Jeep Cherokee airbag area heats up while driving
I have recently noticed that the covering area of my
1996 Jeep Cherokee's airbag (in steering wheel)
heats up while I am driving, even when it's not hot
outside (and thus, the dash and other interior
surfaces are still cool). Is this a safety issue, and
what should/can I do? What might this cost to
address, if it even can be?
Unless you have a heated steering wheel, you have an electrical problem; a short somewhere. If it's in the air bag system, you run the risk of detonating the bag. Have a mechanic look at this; it really doesn't seem like a difficult fix.
Thanks so much for your prompt and helpful answer. That was my hunch, but it's nice to hear that someone with more experience thinks that this might be the case, too.
