Motor block mount

Asked by Mar 26, 2014 at 06:42 PM about the 2004 Jeep Wrangler X

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Pulled up at a stop sign and jeep
made a horrible noise like something
grinding on ground. Garage told me
motor mounts broke and that I need
the engine replaced. Is this accurate?
Why can't the old block have mounts
welded back on?

If the mounts broke, your right, you replace them. You don't need a new engine. What was making the grinding noise? Maybe something internal to the motor? Get a second opinion from another garage.
