The steering feels loose and kind of wobbles... feels rather unsafe compared to normal

Tire pressure is good. Brakes are good. Recently the "part time" 4wd dash
light got stuck on... I really think it's stuck in 4wd and destroying my transfer
case...

Then why not get it checked out and repaired? Might be the transfer case or other steering and or suspension component that is worn or broken.
