What causes a gas leak right under the drivers side passenger door?

sounds like you have a rusted fuel line you can cut out the bad section and replace with rubber gas hose and 2 clamps,just be sure their is no gas in the line befor cutting,you can use a hack saw or a small pipe cutter,just be careful and unhook battery,

most likely a fuel line probleme one of your fuel line has a hole in it or is broke try that hopes it helps
