My headlights keep exploding and I don't know why?

Asked by Jan 20, 2015 at 10:35 AM about the 1999 Ford Escort 2 Dr ZX2 Cool Coupe

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My headlights went out the other night so I
went to go get more and when changing
them there was no bulb on either of the
lights I took out. When I put the new
headlights in, not even 15 minutes later
they exploded the bulbs too.

Overvoltage is usually the problem, have the charging system checked, voltage problems are the biggest killer of automotive electronics, so get it checked quickly, you don't want to have to start buying control computers.
