2017 Buick Encore overheating

Drove 5 minutes on hwy from my house and
now popped up that AC WAS TURNED OFF
DUE TO ENGINE OVERHEATING.  pulled over,
oil looks ok, not milky, any help is appreciated

Did you check the coolant level? If you have a temperature gauge is it on cold and not moving upwards when the engine warms up? If so it's the coolant temperature sensor or the wiring going to the sensor. When the computer loses the signal from the coolant temperature sensor it assumes the engine is overheating and takes steps to prevent engine damage. One of those steps is to disable the air conditioning. Hope that helps! Jim

This happened on my wife’s car, turned out to be a stuck open thermostat, it was odd that the menu showed the message but after the thermostat was changed the problem went away.
