About my 2000 Isuzu trooper LS

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2000 Isuzu trooper LS that keeps
running hot...when it's parked and idling
its fine but as soon as I get about 2 or 3
blocks down the road it starts running
hot and bubbling in the overflow tank
also I smell the radiator fluid but none
leaks out...my check engine light is on
and the computer reads catalyst so I
gutted the platinum out of the converter
and now it goes just about all the way to
hot then goes down to almost the middle
and right back to almost hot and back to
the middle just about...it's like it's floating
up to hot and right back to the middle
almost. What would cause my car to
keep running hot if I've replaced the
radiator, the radiator hose, and a new
overflow tank. My oil isn't milky at all so
it couldn't be a blown head gasket I
wouldn't think...I NEED HELP!

Try replacing the thermostat first make sure the air is bleed out properly, then check the cooling fan, if i remember right these had a fluid clutch on the fan and they do go bad. With the engine cold before starting the engine try turn the fan itself, if it spins freely then the clutch is shot, if there is a fair amount of drag then the clutch is most likely good. A blown headgasket in the very early stages will produce high cooling system pressures just shortly after starting the engine, so if you notice bubbles in the recovery tank after a minute or so then a headgasket is a possibility. Or to eliminate all doubt have a block test performed at your preferred shop. HTH
