ford 2000 with duratech engine

i have owned this car 13 years. i have rebuilt the transmission. Other then that nothing
major. recently hard times been unemployed awhile. So when alternator went out was
able to get a cheap one from rock. i had local high school install alternator.

So here is the problem my car when running is fine, when i turnit off volt light and abs
light shine brightly. draining the battery. prior to new alternator this never happenned.
what could cause this. As it is now every time i stop have to unhook battery.

Electrical disconnect the alternator and then check the light, if the light is off then there is a problem inside the alternator, most likely a failed diode. If the light stays on then there is possibly a stuck relay in the ABS system.

yeah abs does not always come on. school thinks it is alternator also. hopefully rock auto will switch it out. for now just putting a battery disconnect switch on it.

The problem with disconnecting the battery all the time is every time you do, the ECM is reset, so you are loosing performance as well as some fuel mileage.

that is a temporary fix.once employed i will get new alternator

rock auto no help so calling usa auto parts to see if they back stuff they make.
