My 2001 Isuzu 3.5 bumps and loses power. Sometimes it goes back to normal running and suddenly loses its power, making an odd noise in the air filter, which even releases a strange smell...

Strange smells usually come from the catalytic converter. Doesn't mean it is bad tho it should be checked. Cutting out sounds like something with the ignition system, the spark going to ground. The engine needs to be looked over, may have some bad spark plug wires, or just need a tune-up.
