2000 Ford Taurus, my battery light came on and off, I can't get it to start and if I get it jumped I take the ground wire off and it shut off, a friend says it's my alternator but idk, any suggestions

Battery light usually means the alternator. If you get it running, test across the battery terminals for the voltage, should be around 14V. You can also remove it the alternator and have it bench tested at your local auto parts store.
