transmission problems

Asked by Jan 20, 2017 at 03:44 PM about the 2002 Isuzu Rodeo LS 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

When I start it it starts n runs fine , shifting
through all the gears easily. But when I
begin driving I can hear the tranny spinning
at high rpms n see it at 3000rpms but the
Rodeo is barely moving. Around 20mph it
reves and doesnt want to move anymore. I
let off the gas n it grabs again and drive
again at high rpms and barely moving.

When was it last serviced? This sounds like sticking solenoids or an early stage TCM failure, hopefully a code test will help in what direction too go, you can try a service but these are kinda hard to service so if you have a shop that you use I would take it there so they can pull the tranny pan and see if the fluid is burnt and if there are any signs of clutch or bearing material in the pan, if it's all clear then go ahead with the service and add 1 quart of TransX in with the fluid and see if it will clean up the solenoids.
