1998 Chevy k1500 Misfires right after starting
For the past 2 weeks every time I've started my
truck it misfires and runs rough for about 15
seconds and then smooths out and runs just fine.
Spark plugs, wires, distributor cap and rotor button
have all been changed in the past month. Fuel filter
changed a little over a year ago. Thinking maybe
the IAC valve may be going bad but not sure. Any
suggestions?? Truck has the 350 Vortec engine.
Is it triggering any misfire codes? If so, examine the spark plugs of the effected cylinders. If they're wet with gasoline, leaky fuel injectors, if they're oil fouled it's worn valve guide seals. Any smoke from the tailpipe while it's running rough? Black is too much fuel, blue is burning oil. HTH. -Jim
Nope not triggering any misfire codes. No smoke at all. Would it make a difference that the catalytic converters were removed last year and now it's straight piped?
It could. But in your case since the converters have been off for a year and I'm assuming this problem just started, I doubt it. You'll want to check the coolant temperature sensor. It may be out of calibration. Not enough to trigger a trouble code, but enough to make the engine run poorly when cold. You can clean the IAC and throttle body with a spray can of carburetor cleaner as well. The IAC may very well be sticking. HTH. -Jim
Okay thank you so much! I'll definitely try what you said!
You're welcome. Glad to help. -Jim
