85 Chevy C10 Silverado 2WD starts, shifts, but will not go
Ive got a 85 C10 Silverado with a 305, and a 700r4 tranny. It overheated on me so I got a pull from a buddy and as he was pulling me the breaks werent working. I got it home put it in park and let it cool off. I went outside the next morning to pull it in the garage but when it started I put it into gear and when i pushed on the gas the rpms went up but it started rolling back because i was parked on a little hill almost like it was in nuetral and the brakes still wouldnt work. I got it stopped and through it into park and now when I start i, it sounds like the fan is unbalance which i believe caused the water pump gaskets to blow and cause it to over heat. Anybody have any ideas or solutions for me?

Well, depending on how old the water pump is, the pump may be bad, or a bad thermostat. The fan thing did that just happen when you slammed it into park? I'm thinking you need to check the torque converter bolts.
Thats what im thinking because the gaskets keep blowing and i dont think so the guy i got it from had told me to balance the fan i just had been working on other stuff on the truck and totally forgot all about it and would i just need to check and make sure they are tight?
The fan is and should be balanced. It sounds like the water pump is shot if the there is a vibration in the fan.
Oh okay and yea the fan does have vibration, could the water pump be whats keeping it from moving?
Yes very bad water pump.
Okay is there a way to check it or would u recommend just replacing it
You must replace it if you want another ride out of the vehicle. So is the transmission ok then?
Okay, yep transmission was running and shifting great before the water pump gaskets blew
Also replace the thermostat since you'll be working on it. And when you refill the cooling system make sure and purge the air out of the cooling system. So the trany is ok?

Refill the cooling system when all done with repairs, to about 1/2" to 1" above the radiator cores, because when the engine warms up the coolant will expand. Best to have the front of the vehicle raised up a bit since air bubble float upwards. Have the heater control set on hot with the blower motor fan off. With the radiator cap off start the vehicle and let it warm up to operating temperature allowing the thermostat to open. During this time the coolant may rise in the radiator and start spilling out. This is normal, it is just the air working its way out of the cooling system. They make a funnel to put on the radiator so you do not loose coolant during this process, but if you don't get one, no biggy. Have extra coolant on hand because when that thermostat opens up the coolant level is going to drop. Add coolant at this time. Let it cycle a few times (thermostat opening & closing) and topping it off as necessary. DO NOT BE REVVING THE ENGINE WHILE DOING THIS, OR YOU WILL GET A SHOWER OF COOLANT! You can rev. it up but back off the throttle slowly to help push out the air. When done, put the radiator cap back on while the engine is running. Then your done. Shut the engine off.
