1979 Trans Am Speed Boost

Asked by Feb 25, 2016 at 02:16 AM about the 1979 Pontiac Firebird Coupe

Question type: Car Customization

Okay, I'm 18 Years old and I've been looking around
for a good classic car and I've always loved Trans
am (T-Tops especially) I've been looking at them a
lot online lately and plan on buying (preferably a
black one) but any color is good. I would really like
to just find a body because although I love the
Trans am it's mediocre is speed in my opinion. I've
read all online on different motors I could put in 350
& Pontiac 400 were always the most common I
came across, but I want more. Is there even more I
could do to get the 0-60 time, HP and Torque up?
Maybe a cold air intake? Are those worth it? I'm on
some what of a budget but willing to fork out the
money. If you guys were trying to make a Trans am
as fast as possible what all would you use? (P.S Any
suggestions on which exhaust I should get)  Also if
anyone knows where I could purchase a decent
1979 Trans am (Just the body) Please leave a link

Finding a '79 TA for a decent price will be hard enough. Don't worry about upgrading it till you own it and get the car the way you like it first and running correctly. Did you know that if you did find one, a rust bucket will go for around $3500, but running cars in decent shape are in the 15K-35K range?
