I have 55K miles on a 2000 Mustang -when to change the timing belt?

Asked by Jan 27, 2015 at 04:12 PM about the 2000 Ford Mustang Base

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I inherted a 2000 (with 38K) in 2014.  It was a kept in a garage and not driven very much.  I now have 55K miles...  how should adjust the maintence schedule - specifically changing the timeing belt?

2000 Mustang probably has a 3.8 V6. It has a timing chain not a belt. No service is required.

I would suggest inspecting the serpentine belt(s), cooling system hoses, tires, and fill it up with a fresh tank of premium before you start driving it regularly. The belts, hoses, and possibly even the tires may be the originals. HTH. -Jim
