2000 Ford Mustang engine problems

So my engine is grinding. It is making a loud
grinding/awful sound and won’t start. Can’t turn
over by hand but when adding a battery and trying
to turn over it will try but now start.

This sounds like the starter is not engaging the flywheel you may have a battery or cable that is bad but most likely starter moter
