2002 Mazda protege sedan. Automatic

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Driving up hills the battery light comes on and it won't shift back into
overdrive. You have to stop and turn off the car for it to run right.  Do you
know what would cause this.  It also has 150,000 miles on it but hasn't been
driven hard-- belonged to my parents before I got it

Battery light is an charging problem, most probably the alternator. Strange things will happen with a weak battery. Have your charging system checked out. Not sure if the trans issue is related or not. But start with the easy stuff first.
