Emblem Removal

Asked by Jan 31, 2015 at 04:17 PM about the 2000 Ford Mustang GT Convertible

Question type: General

Just bought a 2000 GT Convertible with less than 4000 miles.  Prior owner had put cobra and 5.0 emblems on vehicle.  What is the best way to remove?  Am also afraid they may leave something behind but car was garaged so rarely saw daylight.

You need a good heat gun, not a blow dryer, carefully heat the emblem as well as the area around the emblem to warm the metal, you can tell when it is warn enough as the emblem will wiggle slightly if you try to move it, use a plastic pry tool to gently remove the emblems, most of the goo will come off with the emblem but there will still be a residual goo left, get the clear coat approved GOO GONE and use it to remove the left over stuff. I do have a concern that there could be a paint difference where the emblems are located, the paint could be darker when the emblems are removed just due to age.
