transmission help

I just put in a brand new transmission in my car.
drive axles and plugs are all hooked up...but the car
won't put it in gear the engine revs up. also. it shows
what gear I'm in on my dash it goes from park,
reverse, neutral then back to reverse I'm lost at this
point itsa 2004 Hyundai tiburon

yes I let it get hot switched they the gears then checked the fluid it's right where it needs to be
