I have a loud rumbling noise coming from the front wheels of a 2005 Sonata 2.4 L..
i have checked for transmission noise, CV joint noises and bearing noises.I can
definitely rule out the first two and I doubt the likelihood of the third. The noise is
related only to the wheel speed and is completely unrelated to engine speed or
whether I turn or move straight ahead. The noise increases gradually but becomes
a loud roar at 50-60 mph. The tires are 6 months old and in good shape. Please
help! I'm all out of ideas.
Raise the vehicle enough so the wheels are hanging free and securely blocked, get a mechanics stethoscope start the engine and put in low gear, watch for moving parts and put the probe end right on the wheel bearing housing, if you hear any rumbling noise then that is your problem, I would recommend that you do both sides at the same time. As these are sealed units you will have to replace the what they call the hub assembly.
