First check your tranny fluid. You may be very low. You have to check an automatic tranny with the engine running and preferably warm. Pull the stick with the engine running, wipe clean, put back in, pull out, take reading. If low, you will need a transmission funnel. It goes in the same hole the dipstick goes in. Pull the stick out, put funnel in the dipstick hole, and add the fluid as needed. Also do this with the engine running. If you check auto tranny fluid with the engine off, it will always appear full on the stick.

My best guess would be that it may not be your transmission, but your egr valve and passages. When this service needs to be done, you may not always get an engine light on. I have had this problem on my 97. Here is a link you can copy and paste into your browser, to a page with the service bulletin at the bottom of it: http://www.justanswer.com/honda/11ld8-egr-valve-clean-ports-1998- accord-lx-v6.html
