1996 Accord LX fuel gauge on empty but gas in tank
My gas gauge is suddenly reading empty when I know I have at least half a tank of gas.
Could this be a fuse problem. Or ??? Thanks.
If it's only your gas gauge that's dead it's probably not a fuse as the fuse would supply 12vdc to the whole instrument cluster. It is most likely the gauge itself that is bad, the sending unit in the gas tank that failed, or the wiring in between.
Thanks very much, Mark. Would you know roughly how much this will cost to repair? I will take it in, but since this is the first repair I've had in the 17.5 years I've had the car, I wouldn't know a good price from a rip off. The car is in great shape and only has 17,700 miles on it. Thank you, again!
I looked up the sending unit and they range from $110 to $140. Assuming it's the sending unit which is most likely the case, I did a quick labor search and it ranges from $50 to $500 for a sending unit job. Your guess is as good as mine.. lol. I would call around to a few different shops to get a decent price. Of course have them diagnose it first just to make sure that's the problem.
Thank you, again!
