Turbo is out in 2007 Outback XT that I might buy.

Asked by Bobberisme Jan 17, 2021 at 07:55 PM about the 2007 Subaru Outback 2.5 XT Wagon AWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

What are things to look for besides the turbo replacement? How would I know if
it sustained engine damage?
If it is just unbolting old turbo and blting on new one with gaskets and oil feeder
line how long should it take me to complete? Day? Week? Thanks in advance
for all the serious responses!  Bobber

You have no way of knowing if that is all it needs. If you can get the car for $200 you might come out all right.

I say keep shopping! I'm sure you can get a vehicle within your budget that you won't have to fix the minute you get it! It's probably an expensive repair. Otherwise the person wouldn't be selling it! Hope that helps! Jim

Yikes! Old 2.5i turbos are famous for blowing up and sending shrapnel INTO the block! Bits can stay there for an extended period of time and then get dislodged and block a passage or grind up a bearing. They're REALLY time bombs, so take it only if free, then try to flush the motor clean, then use 5w30 synth and keep your fingers crossed.

I bid $200, Ernie bids Zero. Do I hear negative $50? ;)
