1996 Honda Accord 4 cyl engine cuts out at highway speed
Shortly after a partial drain and fill of the transmission of this 96 Honda Accord,
with 352,000 miles on it, I thought the transmission had started slipping.
While driving 65 to 70 for 15 to 20 minutes, the tachometer starts jumping and
then it goes crazy, jumping to over 5000 and down to 0, and at the same time
the car lurches.
The 2 techs who looked at it checked for codes (none) and confirmed the
transmission is not slipping. They checked the alternator (checks good).
A symptom also is that the blue digit clock slowly dims after driving but after
this issue occurs it comes on bright and steady and stays that way for a few
Tech theories range from timing belt to distributor allowing the engine to refire
by itself due to high speed to crank shaft speed sensor and maybe faulty wire,
but if you slow down below 60 after it happens, it does not happen at lower
Any suggestions very much appreciated.
